MYTH BUSTED… Does Oily Skin Need Moisturiser?

MYTH BUSTED… Does Oily Skin Need Moisturiser?

A common myth that many people believe is that oily skin doesn’t need to be moisturised. But let me tell you that it is *BS* pardon my French, but it really is.

Your skin naturally produces oils to moisturise your skin, giving you a healthy glow. If you have oily skin, it’s because your skin might be dry. As a result, your skin responds by producing excess oils in an attempt to try and rebalance itself.

This production of excess oils makes your skin shiny, potentially clogged and thus, acne prone!

Firstly, the excess oil that your skin is producing is NOT “oil”. It’s actually sebum. Sebum is a natural and oily fatty acid produced by the body’s sebaceous glands – which in this case is in our face. Our sebaceous glands help to keep both, our hair and skin soft and healthy (which is a common reason why people have oily skin on their forehead and near their hair line).

Secondly, the most common mistake that people with oily skin do is; over cleanse or use a cleanser that is so harsh, it strips all the excess oils off of their face.

But did you know that stripping these fundamental oils off from your skin just makes sebaceous glands produce more sebum, putting you back to where you started, if not WORSE!

So YES! Oily skin does need hydration too – And that means moisturising daily if you want to say bye-bye to oily skin.

Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten about you!

Moisturising is just as important for dry skin as it is for oily skin. As you want to keep your skin hydrated and replenish moisture.

Your skin is dry because it is the opposite of oily skin and so, isn’t producing enough water or oil. This can happen all year round, during different seasons (especially winter) or even from constantly travelling, there are many reasons.

Regardless, this can be improved with one little product called MOISTURISER!

The ingredients.

The ingredients play a huge role in how your skin will react and whether it will improve your current condition or not.

For example: using a moisturiser with avocado or argan oil is a big tick for dry skin, but a huge no-no for oily skin. While a product with jojoba oil is better suited for those with oily skin.

First of all, get a moisturiser!

But if you’re unsure about what to use, definitely look at the ingredients and do a little bit of research. See what they have in the product and if it’s going to be beneficial for your skin type or not.

Remember everyone’s skin is different, and not every product is going to work the same or have the same results. Some might work, others might not, and some might take a bit of getting used to, but that’s okay because you will come across something that will be best suited for YOU!
